Young Elected Leaders: Perspectives on Age and Elected Leaders
September 10, 2025
Location Not Available
Throughout recent elections, candidate age has become an emerging topic of interest in public opinion and American political institutions, considering the ever-increasing age of elected officials at the federal and state levels. At the Rutgers Eagleton Institute of Politics, we have launched a comprehensive database capturing the ages of all federal and state legislative elected officials nationwide dating back to 2002. In this short course, we plan to launch full access to this database and showcase research concerning public perceptions of candidate ages and the data on the ages of publicly elected leaders. Future research on this emerging topic will be discussed in the short course, covering a combination of papers, presentations, and idea sessions. All attendees will have access to the most recent data from the Eagleton Young Elected Leaders Project, which includes the ages of elected officials at the congressional and state legislative levels dating back to 2002.
